Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, revealed its exciting new vision for creating a smarter life” for consumers today at its IFA 2010 press conference , unveiling the eagerly awaited GALAXY Tab and creating an exciting new category in the emerging tablet market. Samsung’s product portfolio, which also includes an array of new visual display, IT and digital imaging solutions announced today, will be displayed September 2-8 in Hall 20 at Messe Berlin.

Samsung reinforced its leadership across its many product categories during today’s event. In addition to the launch of GALAXY Tab, Samsung unveiled a host of new 3D offerings and announced the Samsung Smart TV Challenge to create new apps for Samsung’s Smart TVs. Samsung also added to its growing portfolios in the IT solutions and digital imaging categories. In each case, the announcements supported the pillars of Samsung’s strength – the ability to create new product categories and create a smarter life for consumers.

“Software is the connective tissue for creating a smarter life,” said BK Yoon, President, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics, during his remarks opening the event today. “It’s the intelligence that moves content from one device to another – binding our product suites into a collective whole – and empowering consumers to orchestrate their lifestyles as never before.”

Mr. SangSuk Roh, President of Samsung Levant said: “we are keen to feed the Levant market with all these advanced and interesting options, and this is a longstanding commitment to change and develop the digital and technological scene in the region.”

Creating a Smarter Life
Before hundreds of IFA 2010 attendees, Yoon gave the opening remarks prior to a showcase of Samsung’s 2010 product lineup, highlighted by the GALAXY Tab and Smart TV.

Yoon opened the event with a five-minute address that highlighted Samsung’s success in 2010 – the first two quarters have each yielded record operating profits – as well its category leadership in TV and mobile. One of the clearest indications of this leadership is Samsung’s leadership in 3D TVs, where projected sales of over 2 million units worldwide has raised the bar in the industry.

Yoon also detailed Samsung’s continued strides in environmental management, noting how the company’s PlanetFirst initiative invested more than $865 million in 2009, putting Samsung on track to meet its goal of being one of the world’s most environmentally friendly companies by 2013.

A Galaxy of Possibilities
Samsung introduced the GALAXY Tab, the company’s first “smart media device.” Powered by Android™ 2.2, GALAXY Tab brings a unique mobile experience allowing more possibilities on the go. The 7inch display offers an optimal media environment to enjoy reading books or newspapers, full web browsing, watching videos, and listening to music. Moreover, users can continuously communicate via e-mail, voice and video call, SMS/MMS or social network with the optimized user interface.

To provide abundant content to its users, Samsung GALAXY Tab comes with the ‘Readers Hub,’ Samsung’s unique e-reading application that provides easy access to a vast digital library. At the same time, Samsung unveils ‘Media Hub,’ a gateway to a world of films and videos, and ‘Music Hub,’ an application giving access to a wide range of music tunes. With GALAXY Tab, users have new powers to consume, create, and communicate from wherever they are.

3D Expansion & Arrival of Smart TV
Building on the success of its 3D launches earlier this year and subsequent market leadership, Samsung announced it will launch seven more 3D TV models during the second half of 2010 to expand its 3D total solution line-up in the European market. This expansion brings its total to an industry-leading 25 models, Included among these is a 50-inch Full HD 3D Plasma. Samsung is the only company which received the official ECO Flower certification from the European Union with plasma full line-up, excluding large sizes.

Joining these TVs will be six new 3D Blu-ray systems, including the C8900 Blu-ray player. The C8900 is the first 3D Blu-ray to combine recording and storing functionalities on a 500GB HDD with the ability to record and play back the HD and 3D broadcasting without losing Samsung’s unsurpassed picture quality.

Michael Zoeller, European Marketing Director for Television and Audio Visual Products, explained to the audience that while Samsung’s 3D leadership will continue to expand, it is also a part of a larger emerging trend – Smart TV. Zoeller displayed Samsung’s premium Smart 3D TV, the C9000, and discussed the growth of Samsung Apps for TV since its launch in January.

That growth is the basis for Samsung’s consecutive announcements of apps contests in Europe, Korea and United States. Samsung announced the Samsung Smart TV Challenge at IFA and more than 500,000 Euros will be awarded to developers across Europe for the best apps designed for Samsung TVs. To help developers understand Samsung’s Smart TV, the Samsung Apps platform and the SDK (Software Development Kit) for the contest, European Developer Days will be hosted in Germany, France, and the UK in October, and final winners will be announced in February 2011.

In the IT space, Samsung responded to consumer demand for mobility and performance from their computers by launching the Samsung SF and RF series.
